There’s something rather wonderful about old-school Hollywood dance routines. I suppose it falls into the same bracket as the stunts in silent movies.

There’s no safety net.

I have nothing against Health and Safety legislation. The way it was explained to me, when I was training to be an electrician, was: If people can’t trip over something, they’ll find a way to shove it up themselves.

That said, there’s something rather magical about the dance routines in the old musicals. A lot of those people could have been horrifically injured – but look how happy they are.
