The fireplace was pretty bare. Mostly flat, it was a dull grey concrete, boring to look at, cool to the touch and kind of grimy, even when it was freshly swept.
I watched one of those How-To videos on Facebook which showed how someone had jazzed up their kitchen by sticking pennies to the floor, grouting them and then whacking a tonne of epoxy over the lot.
Frankly, it looked too pretty to walk on and I can only imagine how much they spent in pennies, trips to the bank – to get more pennies – and various other materials. Quite a lot, I would have thought.
I didn’t fancy doing the kitchen floor but when it came to the fireplace, I knew what would make it look nifty. I’m still pretty proud of it.
