Wow. I loved this novel. A psychological, edge-of-the-seat read, with great characters and a compelling story. I went without sleep for this one.

Malorie hears the news reports about a plague, of sorts. Something is happening in Russia. People, otherwise normal and healthy, see something, and whatever it is, it drives them into a violent mania which results in murder and suicide. The reports are very basic because everyone who sees the ‘creatures’ winds up incoherent, aggressive and, rather quickly, dead. The only people who seem to be unaffected are those who are already insane.

Malorie is pregnant and, although she cannot afford the luxury of panic, she has to concede that something is happening when the reports start emerging from closer to home.

But in a world that is only survivable with eyes closed, how will Malorie bring her child into the world? And how will they live?

An astonishing story, I look forward to reading more by Josh Malerman. Amazing.
