I love Hairspray. I love the songs, the dance routines, the cast, I love John Travolta in a dress. I love that he’s still got the moves. And yes, I know, the purists will prefer the original. I have nothing against the original. Ricki Lake is amazing.
However, the new Hairspray, from 2007, has Queen Latifah. I don’t think I need to list the rest of the cast, but I will anyway. The point is Queen Latifah.

And…
John Travolta –
Gorgeous, in dress or suit, I love Travolta.
Michelle Pfeiffer –
Stunning, and clearly in desperate need of a lasagne, but my word she can hold a note.
Amanda Bynes –
Before she had her troubles and she’s got some killer lines in this film.
Motormouth Maybelle: “Well, love is a gift, a lot of people don’t remember that. So, you two better brace yourselves for a whole lotta ugly coming at you from a never-ending parade of stupid.”
Penny: “So, you’ve met my mom?”
Christopher Walken –
In everything. Some of us can’t think of Christopher Walken without thinking of the music video to ‘Weapon of Choice’ – here’s the link, enjoy. He’s just incredible.
James Marsden –
Remarkable teeth and a great singer as well as a brilliant actor.
Zac Efron –
Is getting his own day in this project, but in the meantime, he’s tremendous. A proper blue-eyed Hollywood classic matinee idol-looking kind of chap, but with better abs.
Allison Janney – I love Allison Janney in everything she does. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her give a so-so performance. She’s always 100% top of her game. Love her.

I find myself reaching for Hairspray every now and then. I don’t spoil myself with it. But it is one of the few things absolutely guaranteed to put a smile on my face. No matter what else is happening, or how rough a day/week/year it might be shaping up to be – glass of something fizzy (honestly, it might be Doctor Pepper), my favourite chair, and Hairspray. That’s me set.
